| Introduction | I was 14 when I moved to Havasu in 1971 and things around here were sure a lot different than they are today. Anyone that moved here pre-1974 are known as Pioneers and we even have Pioneer get togethers on occasion. I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area in August and it was a tad hot! It was about 4 days before school started and I hadn't gone clothes shopping yet. Imagine the horror of a 14 yr old girl starting at a new (small) high school finding out that the only clothes store in Havasu was "Parrott's for Men" and was about the size of your basic convienence store! Havasu was barren and spread out. You didn't have any neighbors unless you lived in one of the small housing tracks. So those of us without drivers licenses really relied on parents for transportation anywhere or a motorcycle. Many of the streets were still dirt roads. And I think back then there were more wild burros living here than people. It was pretty different for anyone moving from a city to this small little desert almost-a-town. And it was a lot of fun too! |
