IntroductionI was born July 21, 1950, in Levice, now Slovakia. In 1973, I received M.S. in Geology from the Komensky University, Bratislava. After moving to the United States in 1976, I commenced graduate studies at SUNY Buffalo in 1977, continuing in 1978 at SUNY Stony Brook, from where I received Ph.D. in Experimental Petrology in 1981. I spent the next 4 years as post-doc at the University of Chicago, returning in 1985 to SUNY Stony Brook. I became Research Assistant Professor in 1986 and Associate Professor in 1989 at the Department of Geosciences, where I currently hold this position.
InterestsExperimental petrology, experimental studies of phase relations and solution properties of mantle materials at high pressures and temperatures, determination of the mineral and chemical composition of the Earth's mantle and its evolution with time. Principal investigator on 5 NSF research grants from 1988 to 2002. Author of 70 refereed articles and a book: Phase Diagrams for Geoscientists: An Atlas of the Earth’s Interior (Springer-Verlag 2003).
