| Introduction | This is a spot for me to think out loud about topics related to the Christian life. I define said life as one lived with the goal of loving God with our entire heart, mind, strength, and soul, and loving our neighbors as ourselves. Substantive, polite comments and queries are more than welcome, and there's no such thing as a dumb question although deliberately rude, insulting, or inflammatory ones will be moderated. If you really want an argument, try calling in to Greg Koukl at Stand to Reason, or writing to Dr. Craig at reasonablefaith.org, or comment on one of Fr. Robert Barron's WordOnFire YouTube videos. They all get paid good money to pursue their calling of answering that kind of question, whereas I'm more interested in evangelizing those of us who are not so hostile, but don't have a perfect niche in the church. While I don't mind getting into a little apologetics or exegesis, if it's out of my weight class I may just say so rather than arrogating authority. I'm just a disciple, myself. |
| Interests | Fitness & nutrition, literature, cinema, music, martial arts, psychology, science fiction, history, culture, politics, relationships, writing, baseball, football, Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox, video games, health, freedom and liberty, economics. Oh, and that Jesus guy. |
| Favorite movies | Star Wars, Star Trek, anything with Bruce Lee, Jet Li, or Jackie Chan, the whole Quentin Tarantino catalog, Firefly & Serenity, the James Bond series, anything by Sherwood Baptist, Hellboy, The Boondock Saints, there's an enormous catalog. I feel badly even trying to pick favorites. And no, I haven't seen Passion of the Christ just yet. I'll update this if I ever do (and probably do an entry on it). |
| Favorite music | Too eclectic to nail it down. I don't even fall into that 'everything but rap and country' window, because some of those can be pretty good too. If I had a favorite specifically Christian group, it's probably Hillsong United. Switchfoot and Bob Dylan are really good too, although their religion is less transparent. |
| Favorite books | Well, saying "The Bible" would seem like cheating, but it's true. Specifically, I like Paul's epistles and very specifically 1 Corinthians might be my favorite. The OT histories in 1 and 2 Kings are good reading, too. I'm a fan of William Lane Craig and Greg Koukl's writing, generally, particularly the former for apologetics. For more devotional/Christian Living stuff, I've gotten into Tim Keller's work, especially The King's Cross. For secular stuff, I liked The Book of Five Rings, most stuff by Nail Gaiman, Michael Stackpole, Timothy Zahn, and Steven Barnes, The Primal Blueprint, and scads more. I go through books at a pretty high clip. |
Whoops! Your tongue is now a magnet. Whatever will you use for silverware?
Well, the nerd answer here would be "the same stuff I already did", since silverware isn't a ferrous metal and wouldn't be affected by my magnet-tongue. If you mean flatware, though, I guess I'd go over to plastic. No big deal, I did that in grad school when I didn't have a dishwasher (hey, I recycled!)
