| Introduction | In 2003 I suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm, and left work in an ambulance. Years of rehabilitation followed, and my focus turned to genealogy and family history. We moved to Bracken Ridge in 1972, and spent 38 years living in one of the nicest suburbs in Brisbane. Our first business opened in 1974. In 1983 I began 20 years in Real Estate working in the suburb. As one of the "old timers" it was my intention to write my personal memories of the area. That was until I realised that there was no published "History" and that information online was incorrect. A huge research project ensued, of all the early landowners. Both my husband John's family and mine lived in Bald Hills. My in-laws ran the Grocery Store on Gympie Road, my great aunt lived in Grand Street. Both moved there 60 years ago. The research revealed a Bracken Ridge secret , the suburb that began in 1866, was officially 150 years old. Time to reveal that secret. The story is in 2 parts. The first 100 years and then our "Memories of Bracken Ridge" spanning the years from the mid 1960's. |
