Introduction | Farzeen Mahmud suffered an iatrogenic spinal CSF leak in 2016. She is native to the Midwest and lives in the East Coast of the USA. Her background is Bangladeshi (used to be India) so she enjoys bringing in aspects of ayurvedic medicine to her cooking and aspects of yoga to her daily life. She trained in learning the Qur'an (the Islamic holy scripture) as a child, and as her brain heals from the assault of the spinal CSF leak, she has found that engaging with the text and recitation of the Qur'an assists in healing her brain. In traditional Islamic medicine, "ruqyah" is the practice of reciting the original Arabic of the Qur'an in a melodious fashion in a person's space or while they are resting to encourage healing spirits to attend them. Farzeen has a degree in Chemistry from Dartmouth College, and has spent time doing "contemplative medicine" in New Hampshire, a rural area of the US. |
