| Introduction | Usman W. Chohan (楚浩云, عثمان وقاص چوہان) has called nine countries “home”, including: The United States, Canada, France, Argentina, Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, Australia and China. More so than living in a country Usman, however, concentrates on living in a language. He is passionate about learning new languages and is fluent in eight. As a hyperpolyglot, his list includes Mandarin, French, Spanish, and Urdu, among others. Usman has been a Consultant with the World Bank Institute in their department of Social Accountability, working on issues of governance reform, and specifically, the implementation of Parliamentary Budget Offices (PBOs) to help bring financial expertise into governance institutions. Usman has studied variously at McGill University, MIT-Tsinghua, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Economics on a full scholarship from UNSW (Australia), where he is exploring the Fiscal Policy implications of Legislative Budget Offices. Given that his last four residences were Montreal, Buenos Aires, Canberra, and Beijing, you will likely find him roaming somewhere between these four coordinates at the ends of the earth. |
