| Introduction | Born, raised, and educated (apart from graduate school in London, UK) in Charleston SC I developed a deep sense of appreciation for all things historical. After more than twenty years on the faculty of the College of Charleston History Department I moved to Birmingham, Alabama and spend my time searching for the hidden history of the people and places all around us. |
| Interests | I find myself spending my days researching the effects of the early rail system of South Carolina on rural development, the earliest and longest regular rail service begun by The Best Friend of Charleston, the life of Birmingham AL pioneer and founder of Regions Bank Charles Linn, the inside story of John Gary Anderson and his Anderson Motorcar of Rock Hill SC, jazz musicians of the LowCountry following WWII, and of course the Flers / Charleston connections. |
