Introduction | Essence of practice: I do a lot of revision surgery of all levels of complexity. I see a rapidly increasing number of young adults for joint reconstruction of whatever type is most appropriate, and we can offer pretty much all the reconstructive options in this area. In conjunction with the ID physicians and plastic surgery I participate in a tertiary referral practice for bone and joint infection. We are a very active and up to date trauma unit, where I presently do many of the pelvic and acetabular fractures and a steady level of nonunion and unusual fracturework. I retain a foot and ankle interest. Expectations of trainees: I’m looking for trainees who ... Treat patients holistically.... Recognise that no operation or problem is “beneath them”.... Apply first principles of medicine sensibly I am irritated by trainees who... Don’t know what’s wrong with the patients... Don’t pay attention to detail... Bullshit if they don’t know something.... Make diagnoses over the phone |
