| Introduction | I am an Associate Professor of Geography and Coordinator of the Environmental Studies program at the University of Ottawa, Canada. My research focuses generally on human-environment interactions, and specifically on subjects such as how households and communities adapt to climate change; the impacts of environmental changes and hazards on human migration patterns; and, how the environment affects the security of households, states and everything in between. I do my best to listen carefully to what my students tell me, and it is at their suggestions that I somewhat tentatively and awkwardly decided to start blogging in the summer of 2008. The aim of this blog is twofold: to provide my geographer's perspective on some of the issues of the day; and, to occasionally float some more esoteric ideas on which I would like to get some feedback from academically-minded readers. When I am not blogging (which has been and will continue to be most of the time) I am teaching, conducting research, or spending as much times as possible out-of-doors with my family. |
