| Introduction | We are enrolled in an evolution course at Rockhurst University and are participating in a grid computing project. The purpose of our project is to better understand the molecular nature of a disease, the disease being brain cancer. Grid computing is basically turning a network of computers into one super computer force by combining the processing power of all of the PCs. We are using the Grid Project called folding@home. What this program does is uses the network of computers to do far more work in much less time than would be possible to do by scientists in the laboratory. The program folds proteins in an effort to learn more about diseases on a molecular scale. Grid computing projects can potentially help us find ways to treat different diseases. |
