Introduction Currently I'm working on a tribute to my father, Joseph Goldberg, who served in WWII as an Army infantry soldier, backbone of the military, as a heavy machine gunner in the 63rd Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion, 253rd Infantry Regiment, "H" Company. This tribute consists of an interview with him for the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress (below) and a printed companion piece, that may never see the light of day. As the result of doing some research, I've managed to become immersed in the history, maps, and unbelievable logistics of WWII. I am trying to trace his regiment's troop movements, but records kept then aren't anything like it is today. And then there was a great fire in 1973 that destroyed nearly 75% of the military records that there were for the Army. So it has been a fascinating treasure hunt..I never thought I could become so interested in anything like this. And it all happened while watching the Weather Channel for a report and saw their program "When Weather Changed History", this particular episode about The Battle of the Bulge. I thought, "My Dad fought then!" Instantly I was transported into that time. And haven't left. Short story long.
