| Introduction | The Mayor of San Leandro, California from January 2011 through December 2014, Stephen Cassidy developed the vision and action plan for the revitalization of San Leandro by becoming a new center of innovation in the Bay Area. In 2014, the Mercury News reported that San Leandro was “coming out of the downturn like few places around, attracting tech startups, artists and brewers to a onetime traditional industrial hub.” As Mayor. Stephen partnered with Dr. Patrick Kennedy of OSIsoft to create a public-private partnership that installed an 11-mile fiber optic network in San Leandro’s commercial core offering businesses low-cost, ultra-speed internet connectivity. Stephen spearheaded a $3 million grant to Alameda Health System critical for its purchase of San Leandro Hospital which saved the facility from closure. Other accomplishments included the opening of the San Leandro Senior Community Center, re-opening of the San Leandro History and Art Museum, restoration of the San Leandro Cherry Festival and creation of a public arts program. |
