| Introduction | An Australian nurse, midwife, lactation consultant with 30 years experiences in Australia, the UK, Papua New Guinea, I have moved to New Zealand as midwifery is my first passion and I need to work, here women have funded, supported access to midwifery care. Most of my previous clinical experiences have been hospital based, however I also attended homebirths, all of these experiences and evidence confirms that with appropriate information, supports and efforts most healthy women can attain natural, loving & joyous outcomes. Otherwise I enjoy tramping (bushwalking in Oz), reading, movies etc. My son, Thomas is a wave jumping windsurfer, electrician presently travelling in Europe. He was born by a questionable caesarean section, so I know the vulnerability of being pregnant for the first time and making difficult decisions which have long term consequences. I subsequently began lobbying Australian governments for evidence based maternity care options, including the ‘Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative’. I encourage all to support the ‘International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative’ to promote, support, protect healthy physiological childbirth. |
