| Introduction | I love books. I love the smell of them, the sound of the pages when you turn them, the way they look neatly ... or not so neatly ... on the shelf, and especially the way they open your world to people, places, and ideas you'd never dreamed of experiencing. I am a former English instructor, a former U.S. diplomat, and a current consultant for a federal agency. But still and always, I am a reader. Now that my life is quieter than it used to be, and I'm less frequently exploring the globe by passport, I've decided to read my way from country to country, Afghanistan through Zimbabwe and everything in between. I want to see with my mind what's out there that I haven't yet seen with my eyes. |
