| Introduction | Salve, I’m Saint Benedict. I was born in Italy in 480 AD. I was educated in Rome, and had a promising career as a nobleman in Rome, but this was not the life that I wanted to live. Soon I left Rome and settled in a mountain village called Enfide. There, I decided to become a hermit, and for three years I lived in a cave in the mountains. Then I decided to move to a monastery. Shortly afterwards, I became the abbot. Unfortunately, some monks became envious of my position and tried to poison me. Twice I miraculously avoided death by poison. I moved to a building on Monte Cassino, where I did some renovations and built an Abbey, where I spent the remaining years of my life. There I wrote a book that is now called The Rule of Saint Benedict. It was a 73 chapter book (more like a manual actually) of how to live a Christocentric life on earth, and how to efficiently and effectively run a monastery. The end. |
