| Introduction | Welcome to my American Wanderlustress Under The Greek Sun blog! The focus is on Greece but I will also be adding earlier travels and places I have lived comprising Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, England, Guam, Saipan, Palau, Hawaii, and many other locales in the past! I am a freelance writer/editor/graphic designer with a strong background in marketing and branding. I have lived in the US (NC and Orange County, California), Micronesia twice, Oia village on Santorini island in Greece...now home base is Charlotte, NC. If you want to switch gears, peruse my Pauper Girl Parables blog chronicling a once-upon-a-time, self-pampered, single woman’s journey through a bleeding American economy. Top that off with being waylaid from September 2012-June 2014 with breast cancer and a subsequent BRCA2 diagnosis, which led to a mere 5 surgeries including the preventative steps I decided to take to avoid future high-risk cancers. My blog, mixing humor and brutal honesty, written starkly and frankly with no holds barred, will resonate with many of us -- female and male -- who have and are still surviving...or are determined to do so... |
| Interests | My dogs -- Koal (my Cocker Spaniel boy) and Karma (my Robeson County rescue) here with me, and my two precious Cocker Spaniel girls in heaven: Snooky and Klaire, photography, writing, scuba (particularly Fiji coral reefs, Micronesia war shipwrecks...120 feet underseas was a thrill), world and US travel (the more locals-oriented, off-the-beaten-path the better), Pilates, watching movies with friends, gourmet cooking, wine tasting and dining. Favorite Quotations: Walter Bagehot: The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do. Van Gogh: The fishermen know the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore. General Patton: Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way. Leo Aguila: Those who want to succeed will find a way, those who don't will find an excuse! |
| Favorite movies | Anything from "Shawshank Redemption" to "Remember the Titans." Love true stories, underdog stories, sports sagas, comedies, most anything except hard sci-fi. "Caligula" from 1979 about the Caesars, which has a little bit of everything and I do mean everything! |
| Favorite music | U2 and Sade! Also Adele, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Diana Krall, Marvin Gaye, Cure, Spinners, Tears for Fears, Josh Groban, Phantom of the Opera highlights, Simply Red, Tina Turner, Depeche Mode, Dido, Joss Stone, Katie Melua, Norah Jones, Patricia Kaas, Ottmar Liebert, Yello Flag, all sax and holiday music, and many more. The iPod's got quite the array. |
| Favorite books | "Eat, Pray, Love," "Marley and Me,""Bitter is the New Black" by Jen Lancaster, Gabriel Garcia Marquez's writing,"The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran |
You've been invited to a fancy ball but the only thing you have to wear is an orange wooly jumper. What shoes do you wear?
Black stilettos! What else?!
