Introduction My husband and I live in a historic Maine river town with many cultural and literary ties to Boston. He is a teacher and coach; I've been an aide in libraries and a school. Our only child, a daughter attends a fine women's college in the Boston area. We have a border collie mix whose favourite walk is the local cemetary. Our kitten Luca is obsessed with brillo pads. We are empty nesters; but our girl keeps us in the loop, thankfully, so the two of us are finding our way in our fifties in a house less one.
Interests I love to read and cook. My husband and I enjoy Maine's seasons. We love to hike, snowshoe, and be near the ocean.Bailey Island has been a week's retreat for us in the summer for the last thirteen years. We appreciate our families, church fellowship and service; our zany border color mix Sprite and zippy kitten Luca. It's a pleaure to work in our yard, or make home improvements. Our great joy is to follow our daughter's many interests as a student in Boston, Massachusetts.
Favorite Movies White Cliffs of Dover, How Green Was my Valley, Mrs. Miniver, The Searchers, The Quiet Man, John Ford's Cavalry trilogy, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, Anything with Katherine Hepburn or Betty Davis; Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr version of An Affair to Remember, Judy Garland's A Star is Born, Meet Me in St. Louis, The last Time I Saw Paris, Giant, All that Heaven Allows, Camelot, Out of Africa, Notting Hill, Sense and Sensibility, Tootsie, Thelma and Louise, Baby Boom, Somethings Gotta Give, The Way We Were, Chocolate, Of Gods and Generals
Favorite Music I grew up hearing Hank Williams and Patsy Cline;Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, etc. I still admire them and other classic country. My Aunt was a teen in the sixties and in college in the early seventies. She was a big influence for me. I love the Beatles, Carole King, Janis Joplin. Love the big voices:Barbra Streisand, Betty Buckley, Liza Minelli, Celine Dion... I can always listen to Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson-that whole Motown era. Faith Hill...what a voice. Whitney Houston.Wow. Lena Horne.Rosemary Clooney, Patti Page. I've seen old clips of Ella Fitzgerald. I definately like her. We recently heard two student jazz groups at Berklee College of Music. They were wonderful.I have no music education, but I like to listen to classical stations. We love the summer in Maine when you can ride to Boothbay Harbor or Bath...so many options to hear a community band play by the river or ocean. There is some good Christiam music out there. We have a summer series here in Freeport, Maine sponsored by L.L. Bean that offers blues, bluegrass, Celtic, and many other genres through-out the summer. I love the Nutcracker, and hope to someday go to the Opera. My daughter is a dancer with a modern group and a hip-hop group. I'm always interested to hear what she likes.I really like Pink 'cause that girl can sing with or without technical back-up.
Favorite Books The Bible. Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, The Killer Angels, Wuthering Heights, Nicholas and Alexandra, Silas Marner, Out of Africa, Anna Karenina. I gravitate to biographies, travel section, histories, and fiction. Currently I'm reading Jacqueline Winspear's Among The Mad. I have Erica Bauermeister's The School of Essential Ingredients in reserve.
