Introduction I'm currently entering my 7th year teaching at a middle school. Currently, I'm teaching mathematics and English language arts to 2 groups of grade 7 students. Some days, I've wondered what I've gotten myself into; I wonder if I'll be one of those teachers part of the statistic of becoming a teacher only to change careers in the early years of being in the classroom. I've also sat with a group of students, listening to them read something new they just finished writing, wondering how on earth I could ever consider being in any profession than teaching. My job has evolved over the past seven years and continues to evolve each day I learn something new, which, from what I can tell, is every single day. So...I'm learning. I'm learning how to do things differently. How to keep up with new technologies available. How to teach something more effectively. How to lead others or help others to become more confident and effective teachers. All the while wondering...where do I fit in this big picture of education? What is my role in preparing today's students for the future they will encounter in the following years? Are we doing enough?
