About me

Introduction In Sept. '04, Claudia was diagnosed with a brain tumor. A 9 hr. surgery revealed that the tumor was much more invasive than originally thought. Having to remove the carotid artery, she lost over 1/2 her blood & almost died. The following month of recovery in the PICU also presented many challenges/setbacks. However, dr's told us she would have a stroke, paralyzing 1/2 her body...She never had a stroke! Dr.'s also told us she would never open her blind eye w/o surgeries..today it is 2/3's open! Unfortunately, our story doesn't end here. A follow-up MRI in April '05, showed the tumor had grown back. After further evaluation & many dr's across the country discussing the best course of treatment, on June 2, Claudia had a port-a-cath surgically inserted into her chest & began aggressive chemo treatment. Normally, radiation is used but b/c whe is so young, the effects of radiation would be too harsh on her immature body so chemo will hopefully stop the growth until her body is more developed to take radiation. The chemo will last 1 1/2 yrs and entails us driving to Indianapolis - a 5 hr.drive - every Thurs. (For entire story see below: "Claudia's Story" in March '06 Archives)
