| Introduction | My mother was a basic school teacher and my father was a fisherman turned fish trader. Being first son, had lot of responsibility. Managed to become first graduate of a first generation graduate siblings. My father became a non successful trader and ended up as a drunkard. So I had to spend my full energy and resources in helping mom to get my five sisters married (in India it means arranging dowry). Now everyone is well settled. I decided to be a professional social worker and have become a successful one. I have helped people to create a river basin network to protect the rare common resources and have helped the fisher community in the coast to protect their rights. The struggles however goes on as there is craving from profit making corporates to usurp the resources at lower costs. |
