IntroductionWhat is one shot painting? It is the practice of completing a painting in a single session. The painter's ability to "knock it out" depends on the complexity of the subject and the concentration level of the painter - a session can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 8 hours. Whether I am painting landscape, still life, the figure, etc., I am confronted with both the daunting task and the rewarding opportunity to observe and capture what I believe are the essential elements of my subject through paint. I paint all subject from life and consider it a great joy and an immense struggle. I hope to capture the feeling of these synonymous realities in my paintings. For me, the purpose of painting is to tap into something that is profoundly human, something sensual that lies on the fringe of memory, a reality both strange and familiar.
