| Introduction | Bijayini Satpathy is the Director of the Odissi Gurukul at Nrityagram and is involved in the training of a new generation of dancers. She is also actively involved in creating new training techniques for classical dance and in extending the vocabulary of traditional Odissi. She has performed as a soloist and as part of the Nrityagram ensemble, at various international venues. Her awards include the 2003 Mahari Award given to the best Odissi dancer of the year, the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2007) given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Sanskriti Award (2007) and Krishna Gana Sabha’s Yagnaraman Award for Excellence in Dance in 2008. |
