| Introduction | I’ve spent my adult life questioning “official definitions of reality” and organizing against injustice and war. "Research not Stereotypes," is the motto for my website. In the 1960s, I dropped out of college to participate in the civil rights and anti-war movements. I watched gangs form in Milwaukee in the 1980s and have been trying to understand how gangs and the “socially excluded” fit into a strategy for social change. I have been researching, writing, and teaching about gangs for more than 25 years. I also serve as an expert witness in gang court cases, many involving the death penalty. I am married, have five kids, three grandchildren, and two dogs. |
