Why does the taste of pennies remind you of losing a tooth?

This is obviously because of the our friend, heme, which has a lovely iron atom at the centre of a porphyrin ring. When you lose a tooth, you bleed. Blood contains heme. Iron is a metal. Pennies, I am assuming, may contain some iron. I've also never tasted a penny, or have ever considered doing so. So I guess the above point is moot.
