| Introduction | I currently work as a clinical lecturer with the Cardiovascular Sciences Research group at the University of Manchester. My clinical specialty is Emergency Medicine. I trained for three and a half years as a Senior House Officer at Stepping Hill Hospital before moving on to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where I completed my PhD on top of a clinical commitment of approximately 25 hours per week. In 2007 I took up a position as Specialist Registrar, spending time at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Hope Hospital and Stepping Hill Hospital. I completed my exit examination (FCEM) in March 2010. Academically, my research area is predominantly focused on the early diagnosis of acute coronary syndromes. I am currently focusing on the derivation of a clinical decision rule that may combine clinical features with ECG findings and biomarker levels to identify a group of patients who may be eligible for early discharge. I have also developed an interest in cardiac biomarkers and have recently focused that interest towards the evaluation of high sensitivity troponin assays. The aim of my clinical lectureship is to achieve a clinician scientist award by the end of 2011. |
