| Introduction | Deep in the Himalayan ranges, there is a great mountain that the locals called "Macchapucchre" (pronounced "ma-cha-pu-cha-re"), meaning "fishtail". The peak of this outstanding mountain is shaped like an inverted tail of a fish and the more I gazed at it, the more I was attracted to it. Belonging to the mighty Annapurna Range (the entire Himalayas consist of a number of ranges, each named after one of its famous peaks), Macchapucchre is so revered that mountaineers would not get permits to ascend its peak.
