| Introduction | My name is Peter Jones, and I am a student at the University of Texas at Austin. I am a senior, and a finance major. I haven't lived in Texas all my life; in fact, I only moved here six years ago. Because of my father's job, my family and I move around often. Fortunately, I have been able to stay in Texas, and I hope to continue to learn about our state's rich history. I consider myself a Libertarian, in the sense that I am generally conservative on economic issues and more liberal on social issues. I usually do not agree completely with the ideology of any one party. My main political influences have been my parents, friends, and my time in school. I have also been influenced by the websites and blogs I actively follow online. I don't have any specific political experience aside from the several government courses I have taken in the past. Those courses, however, have all been about U.S. Government. Thus I hope this course will give me an opportunity to learn about Texas Government, especially since I plan on staying in Texas after college. I also would like to learn more about local politics/government, and become more politically active in Austin and Texas |
