IntroductionMy Dad never showed much interest in the Boots winemaking kit we'd bought him for his birthday. But I started heading off to teenage parties and the foosty old box caught my eye. Pretty soon I was fermenting anything I could lay my hands on... including dandelions (nice) and parsnips (an acquired taste that no-one ever acquired). For a short time I was 'the man'. It didn't last though, older kids started turning up with real booze. Cider won and my market dried up. So I started learning about "real" wine and trying to make an approximation of it using elderberries, blackberries and apples. I'd ferment different batches, give them pretentious "cuvee" names... and at the height of my precociousness, dip the bottle tops in melted wax and stamp them with a 'J'. Then I got a life...... but kept my love of wine.
