Introduction | I am a 17 year old birder and Eagle Scout from western Iowa. I live in a small town of about 250 people where the main mode of transportation around town to many is a lawnmower, four wheeler, or a golf cart and where stray cats seem to outnumber the people! I have been interested in birds since I was seven when I got a leather bound Audubon bird book from my next door neighbor who was dying of leukemia. Since then I have been interested in birds and I have loved the outdoors as long as I can remember. I really got crazy about birds when I joined the Audubon Society when I was 11. I am currently secretary for the local Audubon chapter and am writing the "Fledgling Tracts" article for the magazine South Dakota Bird Notes. My birding optics are 10x42 Nikon Monarch binoculars and a 15-45 power Leupold Sequoia Scope (hoping for Swarovski one day). My camera is an 18x optical zoom Panasonic DMC FZ-18. I currently have 468 life birds, with Boreal Owl as the 300th. Although birds are my specialty, mammals and butterflies are also of interest to me as well as prairie plants. Now that I think about it, all aspects of nature interest me. |
