Introduction | Sgt. John Cooley retired in 2001 after 30 years of service with the Los Angeles Police Department. As the Officer-in-Charge of LAPD’s Employee Assistance Unit from 1992 until his retirement, he served as the department’s Funeral Coordinator, among other duties. His expertise comes from managing 18 LAPD line-of-duty funerals, plus 3 for other southern California agencies, as well as over 60 LAPD funerals for active officers. He assisted the LA City Fire Dept. with a multi-victim funeral. He managed funerals for active and retired personnel of all ranks, civilian employees, SWAT and other specialized units. He offers his services as a private contractor for a reasonable fee to cover his time, travel/lodging, and basic out of pocket expenditures. He also assists agencies with developing funeral protocols and personnel training.
