InterestsFantasy: I had this recurring fantasy that the good people who bestow the MacArthur Grant (aka "The Genius Grant") could never quite locate me for reasons unforeseen. They'd be piled up in their van (like the people in the Publishers' Clearing House commercial) with their maps, computers and geo-satellite tracking devices searching high and low throughout the countryside. And somehow, someway they'd always manage to fall just short of actually finding me..... Reality: I once saw this guy standing on the SW corner of St. Marks & Third one winter day some years back. He appeared to be a homeless guy, a homeless guy on the sidewalk selling snowballs aligned in neat rows according to size. I looked at him, looked at his snowballs- and walked on by like everyone else. Nice try, but... I mentioned this little scenario in passing to my one photographer friend in NYC. "That guy," he says, "I know exactly who you're talking about." It seemed he had caught his little act too. "That guy won a MacArthur Grant!"
