| Introduction | John Tata, a noted New England artist/illustrator and musician, has added an author feather to his cap. After a long career in commercial art as well as a comprehensive musical journey, he obeys his muse and writes down some of the highlights (and lowlights) of his sometimes rough-and-tumble formative years. After blogging said memoirs, he now takes it a step further with his new book, “The Boy from Plastic City” (Fellow Pilgrim, ISBN 978-0692625439). The “Plastic City” of the title refers to his hometown of Leominster, Massachusetts, described by the author as a mill town on a bluff beside a dirty river. Although his vocation and avocation have taken him as far as the burning sands of Saudi Arabia, he pointedly paraphrases the old adage “you can take the boy out of the Plastic City, but you can’t take the Plastic City out of the boy.” Consummating his abiding love for the seashore, Mr. Tata currently resides on the North Shore of Boston in the Gloucester village of Magnolia-by-the Sea with his wife Jocelyn and their beloved Rat Terrier, Louis, where they plot their next adventure. |
