| Introduction | Having spent a working life in education, mostly in and with schools, I have decided to try to capture some of the experiences and learning from this journey to date. I began teaching in a London secondary school in 1974 and have had a varied career since then, mostly in the North of England, encompassing teaching, school management, Local Authority adviser, Director of Education, Managing Director of an outsourced education service, Chief Executive of the National Strategies and latterly as a consultant working with the National College, LAs, Teaching Schools and Academies. For the past year I have not worked whilst I supported my wife through serious illness. I will almost certainly return to education in a working or voluntary capacity. Meanwhile, it seems a good time to reflect on my journey to date. I am married to Janice and we have a daughter who is training to be a teacher! I am good friends with my ex-wife Carole with whom I have two children. So far we have 5 grandchildren. I live in Yorkshire but also have another home in France where we spend a good chunk of the year. |
