Introduction Greetings, I believe that improving our cities is the best chance that we have to get to true sustainable development. Cities are the most complex - and interesting - systems created by humanity. Cities define our civilizations and they are the most important and rewarding place for those of us trying to make a difference. I have worked with cities for more that thirty years; looking after their waste, helping to encourage economic development, addressing urban poverty, and working toward enhanced city performance and quality of life for all residents. I am a Canadian working at the World Bank in Washington DC. I've worked in more than 60 countries and about 400 cities. Toronto is the city where my roots are most firmly anchored. I have a B.Sc. in Geotechnical Engineering (University of Waterloo) and a M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering (Guelph University).
