IntroductionI create monsters and elves, and habitats for them to live in. I enjoy playing with scale, building a planet out of a pepperpot. Creating worlds to get lost in. Currently I'm constructing massive shells, which tiny parasitical human communities have gunked up. Switching between macro and micro, nature and Gunk... Part of the Cultural Olympiad in Weymouth and Portland, change is a-foot in our little backwater at last! 2008 has also involved tireless energy on a processional project in the run up to the Sailing Olympics in 2012; 'Armada on the Esplanada’. I work a lot in prisons, run the Learning 2 Learn programme for Anne Peaker Centre. I'm getting excited about starting some similar work in eastern European communities. I have lived and worked in the Balkans for many years and spend a lot of time in Sarajevo, which is probably the most special place I know in terms of amazing people and quirkiness. Incredible underground bar and music scene and people with genuine spirit and something considered to say about the world. I go there to find balance to the petty politics and mundanity of the UK. My Bosnian friends will scream and shout when they read that.
InterestsUsing arts in social research and development has taken me to many interesting and challening places in the last 13 years, including post- conflict, post earthquake and prison environments. I have worked in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iran with teachers, artists and social workers. Currently I manage the Learning 2 Learn Project for the Anne Peaker Centre for Arts in Criminal Justice, and I am working as an artist at HIgh Down prison, after doing a spell at Portland YOI.
Favorite moviesEmir Kustarica, Ademir Kenovic and Pjer Zalice are big favorites. Bosnian film is going through a rennaissance but its always held a fascination for me. I also love lots of other stuff too, David Lynch, Peter Sellers, oooo he's a laugh and the gaudiness of the Carry On's. They all have their unique charm.
Favorite musicBalkan stuff again, gypsy brass band and Klesmer. Odd bands like The Real Tuesday Weld. I also like vocalists such as Eva Cassidy, Suzanne Vega, Sheila Chandra and others. Middle Eastern music is good. I have been known to jump around madly to techno when the occassion demands.
Favorite booksI have just read the most disturbing chapter in Murakami's 'Kafka on the Shore'. I switch between fiction, travel. Try to learn about places before going there, makes the visit much more...
