| Introduction | I am a mother, wife, daughter, friend, pet owner, a wanna be and opinionated writer, and I live with metastatic breast cancer. My cancer has helped me develop a much greater appreciation of life, family and the little things. It helped give me the courage to earn my college degree 30 years after I first started, to volunteer my time with abused and neglected children involved in the court system. All this has allowed me to meet every day heroes: other cancer warriors, people whose lives include the challenges of poverty, prejudice, history of abuse and illness (both physical and mental). I’ve been honored to have meet some of the best medical practitioners (especially oncology and ICU nurses), social workers, and foster parents who take children in need into their homes and their lives! I am grateful that these seemingly ordinary people, who are not ordinary at all, have shared who they are with me. |
