Introduction Humans are forever building on top of ruins. If you dig down very far in a nation, in a tribe, in a leader--we are always dealing with the past. Some people will say that we learn about the past in order to not repeat it. Perhaps. I say it's good enough to learn about it so we don't feel alone in our struggles, so we don't feel inappropriately superior in our achievements, and so we don't despair when problems seem insurmountable. We study the past to feel connected with events which led us to where we are today. We study the past to gain a sense of proportionality about events. We study the past to know what it means to be human. I'm a teacher, but I will always be a learner first.
