| Introduction | Maria is a queer spoken word poet living in Florida. She holds an A.A. in the Liberal Arts from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a B.S.S. in English from Cornell College. She likes degrees so much she is currently working on an M.I.L.S. from the University of Southern Florida. She's won numerous awards for her poetry and prose and was a finalist for the 2016 Nick Adam's Short Story Contest. Her work appears in The Cedar Valley Divide, The Open Field, Sinister Wisdom the devised play Hear Me Roar. The title: “Shouldn’t it be ‘I should see other people’?” my professor mused in lit class one day and so it was. It’s an all-too-honest admission, an exasperation, and the true sentiment behind the much friendlier “we should see other people.” I also love the way ‘should’ operates; a fleeting thought rather than a call to action. |
