About me

LocationAdirondack Mountains, United States
IntroductionWe have been living and working on the edge, within the Adirondack Park since 1983. Young at the start and with many hands to help, we purchased our land, cut and milled our logs on our sawmill and designed and built our log home, greenhouse, barns, shop and studio. We homeschooled our boys though to college and enjoy a wonderful connection as family. Whether Caretaker, Judge, Carpenter, Boat Builder/Restorer or College Instructor, Basketmaker, Youth Center Director, or Book Store Owner, our multiple jobs have been diverse and fulfilling. Our 40 acres have been a source of inspiration as we use the trees for our lumber, firewood and maple syrup production, create healthy and diverse wildlife habitats, and utilize permaculture designs to encourage vibrant formal and forest food gardens. For more than 20 years we have mentored and fed hundreds of Paul Smiths College students and have been mentored by them in return. And when bear, coyote, hawks, foxes, raccoons and fisher cats allow we attempt to raise meat chickens. We often call home base camp, and enjoy traveling by bike along the coast from Maryland to the Gaspe' Peninsula in Canada and trekking through Italy to visit “Family".
