Introduction | Raised in an Irish and Portuguese fishing family, Mark was born with salt in his blood. His family lineage goes back to the Portuguese island of Madeira, known for it's world class blue marlin and wine. He grew up fishing and working the local boats in the San Diego sportfishing fleet. His love of Baja and the East Cape region in particular, started in his early twenties and has grown into an obsession, fishing tournaments throughout the Baja region and learning from local captains and pangueros. Mark started East Cape Guides in the Summer of 2000 to educate anglers on Baja Big Game Offshore style fishing and promote fishery conservation. He also teaches Baja fishing seminars on the West Coast and provides on-the-water instruction to all of his clients. He is an offshore tackle specialist and avid lure collector, while also enjoying surfing, free diving and spearfishing. His sportfishing destinations include Costa Rica, Hawaiian Islands, Mexico and Portugal. Mark is Coast Guard certified in Seamanship, Nautical Navigation and GPS. He is also First Aid and CPR certified. |
