| Introduction | I’m a scientist, born in the 20th century, with graduate training in both physics and biology. I believe that both disciplines can contribute quite fruitfully to questions of atheism vs religious belief, and I will explore this idea in some of my blogs. I am also a Unitarian-Universalist, partly because spirituality is perforce a part of our lives, believers or no. As a UU, I have had the freedom to explore the meaning that spirituality, and other “religious” terms such as grace and faith, can mean to a non-believer. Finally, while I am a devoted and devout atheist, any absolute certainty about this belief is tempered by my scientific devotion to keeping an open mind. As a result, I am leery of any dogmatic theory of the universe, atheism included- and so will occasionally explore the remote possibility that we got it wrong. |
