Introduction Most people who read this blog already know me very well, so I'll just include the more recent updates. I've just turned the big three-oh. We had our baby - Jaren Orion Aston, born on the 9th of January 2010. Varian and I are living in a house we love around fields we love that remind me of the valley except we have gum trees instead of quaking aspens. Varian's working as a Social Worker at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. I'm working in my dream job as a new stay-at-home-mom, and loving it! Lately I spend a lot of time reading (can do it while feeding Jaren), learning to cook new recipes, writing in journals, keeping up on all my long distance family and friends, blogging/facebooking/emailing..etc, improving my homemaker skills, spending time with Varian and Jaren, and exploring places in Australia. I also hope to spend more time developing my photography and violin skills. So much to do...isn't life an adventure.
Interests Reading, movies, family time, bonding with friends, writing, photography, piano and violin, yoga, dancing, art in all forms...etc
Favorite Movies Oh my heavens, this is as difficult to claim as my favorite books (see below). But the first rank has to go to Emma with Gwenyth Paltro. After that perhaps Power of One (thus inspiring my obsession with Africa and humanitarian work which resulted in our visit there at the beginning of 2009). I love chic-flics despite their all too often lack of a serious plot line. The same goes with all dancing movies. I realize they usually hire dancers not actors, but I love them all the same. I love scary movies, and movies that make you cry (as long as they resolve well). I love movies that inspire you to be a better person or try new things.
Favorite Music I like quite a lot of music, but am terrible with names of bands/songs. My brother Jake is the music-guru and whatever he sends me I enjoy. I do of my own accord and memory like the following: Nora Jones, Sara Mclachlan, Andreas Bocceli, Josh Grobin, Blues Travelers, Counting Crows, Erasure, They might be Giants, Peter Brienholt, Indigo Girls, Enya, Nylons, Paul Simon, all the random oldies that my mom played growing up, and then just a large assortment of random songs and artists that I don't really follow but like listening to.
Favorite Books I am a sucker for good books and love so many. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes and to narrow the list down would be very difficult. And ironically (though in connection with just not caring about names like in my music listing)I don't always know the names of the authors that I love. However, some of the books that I especially enjoy reading and in many cases rereading are as follows: Anything by Georgette Heyer, the Jane Austen collections, I admit I enjoy the Stephanie Meyer's that I've read, Orson Scott Card books partic. all the Ender books, Harry Potters...now my mind starts to wander over the many classics and even young adult literature that I love. I always read "The Girl Who Owned a City" to my fourth graders and that is a favorite from my childhood along with many others. Really I just can't get enough of reading.
