| Introduction | Birding has been my principal hobby since my early teens. During that time I've developed a passion (some might say obsession) for "statebirding" and “provincebirding” - trying to find and study as many bird species as possible in each state in the US and Canadian province. This passion resulted in several life-long goals which I've recently achieved - to be ABA reportable in all Lower 48 states and DC (achieved in 2023), tally 2,000 state birds in the 6 New England states (reached in 2015), and amass 15,000 "Total Ticks" throughout the US and Canada (reached in MT in 2022). And now in retirement, I’ve started a bird guiding company - 50 States Birding. I provide two guiding options - traditional guiding services where I accompany birders in the field; and a second lower-cost research-based service where I provide birders with customized planning information to help them bird an area on their own.
