| Introduction | John Brown enjoyed a highly successful career as a pilot in the Royal Air Force. He achieved a, rarely awarded and prestigious, A1 Flying Instructor Category and was appointed an Examiner at the Royal Air Force Central Flying School. He flew Victor, VC10 and TriStar aircraft in the air transport and air-to-air refuelling roles and Islander aircraft during a period of Loan Service with the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force. He Commanded the Operational Conversion Units for, Victor and VC10 aircrew. His last appointment was Chief Pilot for all the Royal Air Force tanker and transport aircraft. He was Command Instrument Rating Examiner, the Command Air-to-Air Refuelling Examiner. A graduate of the Royal Air Force Staff College he has held key MOD and NATO appointments in Intelligence, War Plans and Training Policy. Since leaving the RAF he joined Serco in 1999 as an expert advisor for that Company’s bid for the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft and became Operations Director. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2003. Self-employed since 2005, he has worked as a consultant for Serco, VT, and Mott MacDonald on a variety of aviation related projects. |
