| Introduction | I've spent most of my life physically isolated from the outside world; I was born on a commune with about 90 residents who, with maybe three friends in school, were my whole life until we left in 1992. Somewhat shockingly, we settled down in a small town (about 1,500 people) where I was even more isolated from the world. Yet somehow, this isolation seemed to increase my awareness of the outside world, and starting in 2004, I finally began to cut loose, travelling more widely than I'd ever imagined I would, and orienting my life outward. Now I find myself facing something of an identity crisis, reconciling my inward oriented character with my desire to reach the furthest, most obscure corners of the world. |
