| Introduction | Africans, African Americans and Caribbeans have a very rich-complex history. A history that has been explored quite often, but never often enough. There is a varying degree of just how much we are appreciative of our history. The entertainment industry has a lot to do with this. The industry works against us reinventing the way blacks should look, behave and who they should become. Take for instance the commercials that involve black children. How many of those children are bi-racial versus the children who are genuinely black? These subtle, and sometimes not so subtle ways program us to believe that we should look a certain way. I want to tackle the gritty and the uncomfortable questions and debates that we shy away from. |
