Introduction Born, raised and educated in the City of Botany Bay, Ron Hoenig is a Barrister-at-Law and a Public Defender for the State of New South Wales.

He is a member of the Australian Labor Party and was elected a Councillor in 1980. He became Mayor in 1981, a position he has held without interruption and he is the longest serving Mayor in the history of the City of Botany Bay and its predecessors, the two former municipalities of Mascot and Botany.

He is married with two children. In 1983 he was elected as Mayor by popular vote, with over 85% of the vote; re-elected unopposed in 1987; re-elected in 1991 with over 80% of the vote; re-elected in 1995 with 88% of the vote, re-elected 2004 with 87% of the votel At the elections held in 2000 and 2008 he was re-elected unopposed.

His achievements are leading with his colleagues the transformation of The City of Botany Bay from what was once an area looked down upon by the rest of the Sydney metropolitan area is now a collection of suburbs noted for parks, leading environmental protection policies, attractive streets, high quality new development alongside modern industry and commerce.
