Thus, we ask what assumptions underpin the discipline of Mathematics (they differ depending whether the mathematician is a so called Formalist, Intuitionist, or Conceptualist. These are the differing ways in numbers as a system are known. So these schools of thought about mathematics are the stuff of the study of The Philosophy of Mathematics. |
