| Introduction | I'm a man of modest means but boundless energy and imagination. I'm a financially independent. I'm healthy - spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. I don't take any maintenance meds. I've a pleasant disposition on life. I believe that I can make my life meaningful by pursuing a goal, experiencing a value, or enduring frustrations and sufferings. I don't want to complicate things. |
| Interests | Love beer, red wine and long walks, and writing. I haven't lost the zest for life, the childlike wonder in every serendipity, or pleasant discovery. Anything in this world is an object of keen and childlike interest. Life, after all, is a never ending process of making discoveries. But there is also such a thing as adventure, which means we should not hesitate to go beyond the unknown. Discovering the unknown makes life more interesting and meaningful. We should cultivate the daring side in us. |
| Favorite movies | I watch movies that deal with history, war, crime, and romance. My favorite movie is Forrest Gump. I like its anti-intellectual content. It's one movie that is less stressful, although I find it profound in meaning. I love Sean Penn's Sweet and Lowdown. My favorite actors and actresses include Robert de Niro, Sean Penn, Woody Allen, Edward Norton, Al Pacino, Michele Pfeiffer, Julia Roberts, Audrey Hepburn etc. Locally, I prefer non-mestizos like Robert Arevalo, Van de Leon, etc. Those pretty boys - or mestizo actors - look gay to me and un-Filipino. Sometimes, I wonder why Filipino entertainers look more Mexican than Filipinos. These mestizos could hardly act, sing or dance at all. I love to go to the theater to watch plays. I've watched several plays, mostly by PETA.. |
| Favorite music | I am a fan of great composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael, Claude Debussy, Jules Massenet, etc... I like Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Someone to Watch Over Me, etc, Debusssy's Claire de Lune and the immortal Meditation de Thais by Massenet. Some of my favorites include Body and Soul, My One and Only Love, and If Ever I Would Leave You. I love jazz, mainstream or fusion genre. I like classical music. I love modern classics by Lai, Mancini, and Mantovani. I also dig R&B, soul and occasional rock and roll. I am a fan of the Temptations, Chicago, Intruders, Tower of Power, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Supremes, and, of course, the late Marvin Gaye, whose immortal song What's Going On is one of my lifetime favorites. I love the kundiman, balitao, dansa, and OPM. |
| Favorite books | I love books. I can't live without those great books. I love history books. I admire great historians like Barbara Tuchmann, David Halberstam and even Paul Kennedy. I dig biographies. Have read books of men and women like Nelson Mandela, Bill and Hillary Clinton, George Patton, Julius Caesar, King Philip II (the Philippines was named after him), Omar Bradley, etc... I love books about social sciences, journalism and contemporary history. Have great works, including Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl and The Sane Society by Erich Fromm. I like literature too. But I prefer the classics like those literary works of Ernest Hemingway, Joseph Conrad, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, etc. I have many interest when it comes to reading and, believe it or not, I have read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time. Books are our great friends and companions. We should tell this to young people. We could be a nation of readers too. |
