| Introduction | This blog was written sometime in spring 2010, while I was taking a semester off from Wellesley College. After 13 years of studying under the Malaysian education system, I felt that I needed to have my say on it. I'm not going to discuss about ways to ace assessment exams scholarships, college applications etc (which you Malaysians are so obsessed about) - there're already truckloads of online resources on those subjects. Instead, I'm going to talk about more fundamental issues such as the role of cultural capital in social mobility and education attainment, the relevance of Confucian Chinese school systems, and the need for a paradigm shift in Malaysian approaches to education etc. |
